About Us:

Little did owner Vicki Johnston realize that angora rabbits purchased for her daughters 4-H projects would eventually be the start of Minnesota’s only hosiery mill.  From humble beginnings of hand spinning and knitting her orders, Vicki and the crew at Northland Woolens has graduated to 32 commercial sock knitting machines.

Today, Northland Woolens products can be found all over the Minnesota and for that matter, the World. Socks, hats, scarves and mittens have grown into larger facilities, more staff and new challenges. For example, as the only hosiery mill in the state, owner Vicki Johnston is also the resident handy woman on the scene. It’s more than a full-time job keeping her machines, her business and her products all in excellent repair.

In an effort to reuse and renew, Northland Woolens has developed one of our more popular lines-the "Twice Baked" or recycled textile line.  Not only do we reuse wool items, we recently added recycled cotton children's clothing.
